If you are new to Multi-Touch technology, read my quick a dirty explanation of the different methods.
With great help and support from the multi-touch community I have created a working multi-touch table based on the FTIR method popularized by Jeff Han's 2006 TED presentation. My trials and tribulations creating this monster are scattered among various posts on the NUI Group forum and The EasterIsland Journal. Eventually I hope to have a solid DIY How to build your own multi-touch table for under $1,000(US).
