General Computing

  • Firefox is our browser of choice as is most of the recommended extensions, including NoScript.
  • Deepburner
    is a CD/DVD burning program that has a really good free version.
  • VLC is a cross-platform media player and streaming server.
  • WinRAR is a powerful archiving tool. Great for .zip .tar .rar and almost all archive formats.
  • TextPad is a small and fast text editor that can BLOCK SELECT text, which is amazing if you've ever tried to manually convert some header file a thousand entries long. It handles all text files really well and has a clean, easy interface.
  • Google Pack has a few applications that are really common. Just don't get the toolbar (it's basically spyware; read the terms).
